El Camino Day 11: Santo Domingo to Belorado

Today’s hike . . . flat and short 14 miles! These days we are calling anything less than 14 miles short. Whew!

Today’s map . . . Taken from “Village to Village Guide, Camino de Santiago, Camino Frances: St. Jean – Santiago – Finisterre” https://www.caminoguidebook.com/about. An excellent guidebook we highly recommend !

We hiked out of “La Rioja” region today and entered “Castilla y Leon,” the largest of Spain’s autonomous regions. Spain has 17 “autonomous regions” they all have their own distinct cultural features. Each region is celebrated for its unique history and identity. If you want to know more about Spanish geography and politics go here. The autonomous regions that we have gone through so far are “Navarra” and “La Rioja.” The final region we go through is “Galicia.”

Goodbye La Rioja . . . hello Castilla y Leon!

View of the clocktower as we were leaving Santo Domingo de la Calzada

The hike today was rather uneventful, just a few things of interest to see, but mostly the paths ran beside highways with trucks and cars. Since yesterday’s post was a little long, I’ll just show a few pictures and then hope that you check in tomorrow. Cheers!

A fun little cafe/food truck that we encountered and stopped at!

We picked up a hitch-hiker!

This Pilgrim looks too happy and blister free!

Fun on a swing!
