El Camino Day 7: Estella to Los Arcos

We had a very restful night at our hotel in the center of Estella, which was a small city with some nice charm and quaint shops.

There always seems to be some ancient fountain in every place we stop that has been around for hundreds of years or even longer . . .

Today’s route will take us from Estella to Los Arcos, about 13.2 miles. We are looking forward to less steep terrain and cooler temperatures with the possibility of scattered thunder showers.

Today’s map . . . Taken from “Village to Village Guide, Camino de Santiago, Camino Frances: St. Jean – Santiago – Finisterre” https://www.caminoguidebook.com/about. An excellent guidebook we highly recommend !

In addition to the hike being less hot, some of the cloud combinations with the landscape made things look truly breathtaking. Also, we saw many old ruins of buildings from long ago.

The combination of lighting, clouds, and colors were very inspiring!

The road ahead isn’t all that bad when you have such vivid scenery ahead of you!

So, I have to say, the selection of beer and wine along the journey has been pretty amazing. Even more amazing was the “Fountain of Wine” that was on today’s path. Some people stopped and filled up their canteens. I settled for a capful. There is a webcam that you can visit, which will show pilgrims who fill up at the fountain. Best viewing is probably earlier in the morning from 0600-1000 when people are just getting started on their way out of Estella. Enjoy!

Yes, this spout dispenses FREE wine! Some folks filled up their bottles. Hope they weren’t drinking and walking, but if they were, well, just another wonderful thing about the Camino!

Just a quick stop for a taste . . .

Then, just up the road, was a smithy/forge that made metal items for home decoration and other purposes. The store itself was a nice outdoor space that displayed all the various creations.

A nice collection of tools for the forge . . .

Some of the creations were pretty ingenious!

The forge grounds had a very rustic and mystical quality with the old metal and plants

As you can see, the hike had plenty of interesting things to catch our attention. On arriving to Los Arcos we were greeted by a man’s petting zoo, which was pretty fun. A lot of farm animals just hanging out together and well taken care of!

A very friendly baby goat!

Of course we came across another meow, meow!

Today turned out to be an amazing experience on the Camino, one that we knew we would encounter at some point! Along with the scenery, we encountered some folks from Texas, Arkansas, New York, Ecuador, Ireland, Puerto Rico, and many other places. Our bodies are getting accustomed to walking many miles each day and despite a few complaints we are doing well. So, until tomorrow . . . “Buen Camino!”
