Burglar or Boy Scout?

Today’s work was pretty mild. Yes, there were some sick folks and I took great care of them, but the most significant event of the day happened when I got back to my apartment complex. What I saw was a family with a ladder trying to get in to their first floor apartment. I recognized the family because they live in the first apartment to the right as you come in to the apartment complex and I’ve seen their pets and other family members come and go and there were children present. I was fairly sure that they were not burglars trying to break in to the apartment. They were having a hard time so I climbed the ladder for them, shimmied the window open and was able to open their door for them.

I know what many of you are thinking  . . . what if I fell and injured myself, what if they were burglars, what if they sue me, what if I somehow get blamed for helping them? What I have to say to that is . . . I was raised in a good church, I am an Eagle Scout, I went to a summer camp and was taught to help people at every turn. Helping people and doing good deeds is in my nature. What was the point of that upbringing if I don’t practice what I was taught? Naive? Not really, because I know what I’m about, what I’m capable of, and how to respect people and treat them right. Especially in this climate of COVID, we cannot be selfish. My message is, help someone who needs it, cherish your friends and family and go out an make a difference! Okay, rant over. Have a nice night everyone!
