El Camino Day 18: Carrion de los Condes to Ledigos

Today’s walk took us through a very flat portion of the journey and also one of the longest stretches without services like food, stores, etc. Actually someone had opened up a seasonal food truck halfway along the route so we did not starve! We walked about 15 miles and stopped at a town called Ledigos just short of the town that our guidebook recommended.

Today’s map . . . Taken from “Village to Village Guide, Camino de Santiago, Camino Frances: St. Jean – Santiago – Finisterre” https://www.caminoguidebook.com/about. An excellent guidebook we highly recommend !

We continued to pass through the portion of the region called “Meseta.” Pretty much flat, but far from boring as some others would claim. Many guidebooks and other sources call this portion of El Camino the “Mind” portion because it is just so flat that it forces you to think since the landscape doesn’t change as dramatically every few miles. So yes, we have been doing a lot of thinking and we found that, actually, the landscape does have many different faces! Here are some of them . . .

View as we were leaving Carrion de los Condes

The Meseta is indeed very flat offering lots of time to think and ponder as you walk

There was indeed some service on this long flat stretch, which we were happy to see

We also walked along with many other pilgrims and had some interesting conversations. And we came across some locals as well . . .

After walking today we are very close to being at the halfway point of El Camino. Tomorrow we will officially be halfway there, so goodbye for now, but see you tomorrow!
