Feeling a lot better today and ready for the road ahead. Here’s how it will look! About 18.5 miles!
Today’s map . . . Taken from “Village to Village Guide, Camino de Santiago, Camino Frances: St. Jean – Santiago – Finisterre” https://www.caminoguidebook.com/about. An excellent guidebook we highly recommend !
We left our albergue fairly early around 0630 with a solid Camino crew. We seem to have naturally befriended a fellow from Ireland and a lady from Canada! We have started making lodging arrangements together and planning our days out with them. It’s been fun!
Our “Camino Crew” sets out in the morning! Many remnants of buildings and old ruins can be seen along El Camino
We came across the ruins of a convent that is now used as a rural albergue for pilgrims. We did not stay here for the night, but pilgrims can do so. They have bunk beds, food, refreshment, but limited water supply that needs to be replenished each day, but for a night in the ruin of the convent it’s worth it!
The ruins of the Convent of San AntonHere is a bit of the history. If you look closely you will see reference to “Cross of Tau” a “sign of protection against evil.” We actually stayed at a place called “Hostel Tau” earlier on our journey so we are well protected from evil!We passed so many incredible places and had fair weather, not too hot and not too cold.
Everywhere we roam we seems to encounter some ancient convent, monastery, castle etc. But sometimes . . .
You can see El Camino stretch for miles ahead of you and other pilgrims doing the same thing you are . . . walking toward Santiago de CompostellaWeather can change quite abruptly at times, sometimes cloudy and sometimes rainy . . . notice the castle ruins on top of this hillThis view is of the same castle on the hill the town of Castrojeriz. The castle is “Castillo de San Esteban.”
Today I took about 200 pictures. It seemed that every change in elevation and every bend in the road provided a new and amazing perspective. If you feel like seeing more photos check out the “El Camino: Scenic Photos” section. See you tomorrow!
