Hello, I had today off and I will be working the next two days. It was nice to have the day off after my unit orientation day. I was able to do some errands and really prepare myself for the shifts I will be doing. Oh, and something very fortunate happened to me on orientation day; I found a traveler who really wanted night shifts and I told her I wouldn’t mind switching, so we got it approved with our travel nursing agency and made the switch! I’ll be on days 0700-1930! I’m glad it worked out like that; I was prepared to do nights, but if I don’t have to that’s also fine!
Right, so today I just took in some of the local surroundings and tried to observe people as they were going about their business. I think having had one shift on the unit has put me at ease a little. I hope it’s not a false sense of security, but I figured I’m doing everything I can to eat right, exercise, take good care of myself, try not to stress about the work ahead, and while I’m here I should remain positive and strong for those who really need the support and the inspiration.
At the pharmacy one attendant was really nice to me and asked me “how are you feeling?” I told her fine and that I thought there were brighter days ahead. The neighborhood I’m in is very Domincan so lots of Spanish being spoken and plenty of hispanic businesses.

The community and city blocks are pretty vibrant still a few folks brave enough to get outside and do their daily routines, but also be seen in their fancy cars playing their spanish music on loud sound systems. I have not seen any gatherings over six people so everyone is still being mindful of social distancing. Well, the only questionable gathering I saw was about 7-10 people taking turns and using the outdoor exercise courses and equipment in the park, pull-up bars, etc.
Overall, I like the place that I am in and it is convenient to work. My apartment is only 1.2 miles from the hospital, but I’m going to try and run 2-3 miles to work and 2-3 miles on the way back from work. There are plenty of parks and nice trails. Okay, everyone stay safe and remember to treat yourself right, even if it’s not running many miles, just do something that will make your body feel good, like stretches, walking, or other things!
